What an exciting week! And that, by no means, is an understatement!
We enjoyed two open rehearsals; in which schools and friends of the theatre were invited to come and watch us rehease and be art of our process. This was so beneficial to us. There is a far amount of audience participation in the play (dont worry ; nothing too scary!) and it was so helpful to have audience members present. We were also able to gauge what sort of things worked and what didn't and the comments after both sessions really gave our confidences a boost and encouraged us to be even more playful with the text and continue to try new things.
We ran the play most days. In the space as well; which is nothing but pure luxury. We worked with more sound effects and parts of costume (mainly shoes) to see how the restrictions of 1930's footware would alter our posture and freedom of movement. (If I could do the whole show in converse, i most definately would!)
The wardrobe department have been simply brilliant. Nicky Meredith, the head of the department has been on hand every step of the way and her passion for precision, along with our designer Laura, has been astounding. I hope you'll agree when you witness all the costumes and design of the piece for yourselves!
We had one little hiccup though, which cannot be skipped over. During our last run before Technical Rehearsals begin next week, Hugh Skinner cut his hand quite badly on a broken bottle and was rushed to the A and E department.
As I write we have had no word, but we wish him all the best and of course, I will keep you posted on his progress! It was unfortunate for the ushers and Hayley from Told by an Idiot who had come in, especially to watch the final run. But holds them in suspense for just a little while longer!
A few more Dance Rehearsals with Adam, our appointed Dance Captain; and some 'flying in' practice for Essie, and we have been released - for what will be a well desrved weekend break; hopefully spent resting ready to be rejuvenated for the hectic schedule that begins on Monday!
Wish us luck! Sarah x
